Off to Scotland...

Well, I leave for Scotland in a couple of hours. I'll be presenting a paper at the University of Aberdeen which is a sub-section of a seminar paper for Rich Feldman which is now a proposed chapter in my dissertation. It defends the idea of probabilistic knowledge, that knowing is consistent with the possibility of being wrong. Seems obvious to me, but I'm up against some very big names. We'll see how it goes.

I don't like to fly. In particular, I don't like the idea of flying over the ocean. I know the probabilities, but psychologically the tiny chances get made salient and it's going to be uncomfortable for me.

It can't be bad, though, to have a sense of my mortality brought home to me. It makes me aware of my sin, my nurtured selfish desires and actions. It makes me realize I don't care for my soul as I should, don't tend to it as I should. One hopes that such reflection will improve however marginally one's subsequent performance. We'll see.
